Antoine Graves (1862–1941) was a prominent Atlanta realtor, first principal of Gate City Colored Public School (1884–1886), and principal at the Storrs School, the first school in Atlanta for blacks. [1] He had his real estate offices in the Kimball Building on Wall Street, a street otherwise totally occupied by whites.
The Gate City Street Railroad Company of Atlanta, Georgia was chartered by the state of Georgia on September 26, 1879. The individuals involved in the formation of the company included Laurent DeGive (Belgian consul and opera house owner), Levi B. Nelson (city councilman), Capt. Augustus M. Reinhardt (namesake of Reinhardt University) and John Stephens.

The 122nd Infantry Regiment traces lineage to the Gate City Guards in Atlanta. At the time, Atlanta was known as "The Gate City" of the South, [1] because it was a major railroad terminus in the region.
