Kutaisi (/ k uː ˈ t aɪ s iː / koo-TY-see, [5] Georgian: ქუთაისი pronounced [ˈkʰutʰaisi] ⓘ) is a city in the Imereti region of the Republic of Georgia.One of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world, it is the third-most populous city in Georgia after Tbilisi and Batumi.
The Kutaisi Governorate bordered the Sukhumi Okrug to the northwest, the Kuban Oblast to the north, the Terek Oblast to the northeast, the Tiflis Governorate to the southeast, the Batum Oblast to the southwest, and the Black Sea to the west. The governorate was eponymously named for its administrative center, Kutais (present-day Kutaisi). [1]
