The first store opened in West Bloomfield Township, Michigan in 1937 as Dunham's Bait & Tackle. [1] It was operated by Ron Dunham on Northwestern Highway west of Telegraph Road. The original store gained exposure through advertisements in Newsweek and fishing shows hosted on radio. The original store burnt down in 1946 but was promptly rebuilt. [3]

In late 2018, Hull Property Group announced that Dunham's Sports would be taking the former location of Sears, relocating from an existing location at Gateway shopping center. [25] Soon afterward, Hull renamed the property to Richmond Mall and began a number of interior renovations, while also opening a McAlister's Deli in the parking lot.
In 2015, Dunham's Sports opened in the southern portion of the former Walmart anchor which shares the interior mall entry. The JCPenney store was replaced by a Dunham's Sports, one of the nation's largest sporting goods chains, in 2016. In November 2017, Sears announced it would be closing 63 more of its stores including the Nittany Mall location. [6] The Sears store closed in January 2018 but the automotive center remained open for three more years.
