Slows Bar BQ is a barbecue restaurant chain with location in Detroit, Michigan. [1] The chef is Brian Perrone, and the restaurant is owned by the Cooley family. The restaurant appeared on Adam Richman's Man vs. Food, and the "Yardbird", a pulled chicken sandwich from the restaurant, competed in the first season of Adam Richman's Best Sandwich in America.
The Elwood Bar was built in 1936 at 2100 Woodward Avenue (on the corner of Woodward and Elizabeth); it has since been moved to 300 Adams. Designed by Charles Noble, the building is an excellent Detroit example of Art Moderne Style, with two facades covered with cream and blue enameled steel. It is now known as the Elwood Bar and Grill. 38
The building was renovated in 1988, and has always served as a bar and grill. [4] In 1997, construction of Comerica Park (the Detroit Tigers stadium) threatened the Elwood, and the Bar was moved to its present location at 300 East Adams Street (on the corner of Adams and Brush). [2]
