Killeen is a city in the U.S. state of Texas, located in Bell County. According to the 2020 census, its population was 153,095, [5] making it the 19th-most populous city in Texas and the largest of the three principal cities of Bell County. It is the principal city of the Killeen–Temple–Fort Cavazos Metropolitan Statistical Area.
It is one of six high schools in the Killeen Independent School District, which is located in western Bell County. During 2022–2023, Killeen High School had an enrollment of 2,076 students and a student to teacher ratio of 16.25. [1] The school received an overall rating of "C" from the Texas Education Agency for the 2021–2022 school year. [2]
In October 1969, Killeen Base was designated as West Fort Hood and the airfield's name was designated as Robert Gray Army Airfield. The base was named after a Killeen native who was a pilot of a B-25 bomber on the famous Doolittle Raid in Tokyo in 1942. He was killed later in World War II flying combat missions.
