The village has a regular hourly bus service (service 70, Mon-Sat) to Wolverhampton and Cannock. The bus service is run by D&G Bus trading as Chaserider. In addition Select Bus service 67 runs three times daily Mon-Fri between Wolverhampton and Cannock via Wedge Mills and Bushbury. This latter service also serves Featherstone Prison.
The Chaserider brand name, which refers to Cannock Chase, was first used by Midland Red from 1977 [2] until 1992.. During November 2020, Centrebus Group subsidiary D&G Bus announced they would be taking over the Cannock depot of Arriva Midlands from the end of January 2021 with operations in Cannock and Stafford running under the revived Chaserider brand.
Service 70 and 71 continue to provide a half-hourly link to Cannock but service 70 no longer serves New Cross Hospital and the 71 only serves Wolverhampton on a few journeys. Select Bus operates school services 67S and 71A that run during term time to Cheslyn Hay Academy. Chaserider Service 70 also calls in at the school twice daily.
Buses services operate between Wolverhampton and the Underhill Estate. Chaserider service 70 operates between Wolverhampton and Cannock while National Express operate service 25 to Wolverhampton via Wednesfield, Willenhall and Bilston in one direction and to Pendeford in the other. On Sundays the service operates between Bilston and Pendeford only.
D&G Bus was formed by David Reeves and Gerald Henderson in April 1998 initially operating four buses on two routes under contract to Stoke-on-Trent City Council. It expanded with both route and school services in Cheshire and Staffordshire with 16 buses by the end of 1998. In April 2005 D&G Bus purchased Wednesfield based Midland.
Additionally, there is also a 180-space free car park on Anglesey Street operated by Cannock Chase District Council. [7] The car park has 2.25m height restriction and a 4 hour maximum stay between the hours of 08:00-15:00 Monday-Saturday however some long stay bays are available denoted by blue lines.
In 2018 the Cannock depot began closing entirely on Sundays due to county council subsidy cuts, leaving Cannock without buses, with the Cannock depot being sold to D&G bus in January 2021. In 2023, Arriva announced that it planned to close the Oswestry depot as a result of low patronage and financial difficulties following the Covid-19 pandemic.
