Brooklyn was a largely African American section of Charlotte, North Carolina.It was home to many businesses, residences, and churches. The neighborhood was demolished for an urban renewal project in the 1960s [1] [2] and is now part of what is known as the Second Ward.
Brooklyn Village is a 17 acres (6.9 ha) development in Uptown Charlotte that broke ground in Fall 2023. [ 3 ] [ 1 ] It is paying tribute to a former black neighborhood in the Second Ward of Uptown that was demolished in the 1960s as part of an urban renewal campaign.

The Cotswold Village Shops is a major shopping center located at the center of Cotswold. The mall originally opened in 1963 as an hybrid enclosed mall/shopping strip located at the intersection of Randolph and Sharon Amity Roads. Originally, it was known as Cotswold Mall, with A&P, the Collins Company, Harris Teeter, Ivey's, and Rose's as tenants.
In 2010, the Charlotte Trolley service to the station was discontinued. [5] In 2015, the side platforms were lengthened to allow three-car trains at the station. [6] [7] On June 30, 2022, the station was renamed to Brooklyn Village to correspond with the street renaming of Stonewall Street to Brooklyn Village Avenue. [8] [9]

In 1995, the Charlotte Convention Center relocated a few blocks south of its former location. The original Charlotte Convention Center closed shortly after, and was placed for sale. The building was on the market until The Ghazi Company purchased the 3.25-acre (1.32 ha) site in 2004 for $14.5 million. [2]
