Through a $250,000 bond issue, the original children's hospital was completed in 1929 in Chattanooga's Glenwood community. The facility had 89 beds for children and 16 beds for newborn babies. After several years, the children's hospital board merged with the Erlanger hospital board, and the facility was named T.C. Thompson Children's Hospital. [3]
1975 – T.C. Thompson Children's Hospital becomes part of Erlanger and is relocated to the downtown location. [6] 1976 – The children's hospital opens a pediatric intensive care unit. [14] Also this year, area voters approved creating the Chattanooga-Hamilton County Hospital Authority as Erlanger's new governing body.
Siskin Children's Institute, (a non-profit organization with onsite locations in both Chattanooga, Tennessee and Nashville, Tennessee and remote services in the North Georgia area) is a charity for children with special needs and their families. The institute was founded in 1950 by Mose and Garrison Siskin, two Chattanooga businessmen.
