Lutz is located in northwestern Hillsborough County and southern Pasco County at (28.139428, -82.462028 It is bordered to the east by a region of Tampa known as New Tampa, to the south by the Lake Magdalene and University unincorporated communities, and to the west by unincorporated Keystone, all in Hillsborough County.

It begins at County Road 579 (Morris Bridge Road) west of downtown Zephyrhills and runs north in a short overlap with that road until it curves east, and runs east along Eiland Boulevard, while CR 579 continues north along Handcart Road.
