Dervish is an Irish traditional music group from County Sligo, Ireland which has been described by BBC Radio 3 as "an icon of Irish music". [1] They were formed in 1989 by Liam Kelly, Shane Mitchell, Martin McGinley, Brian McDonagh, and Michael Holmes and have been fronted by singer Cathy Jordan since 1991.

The earliest incarnation of the group were formed as an amateur teenage band in early 1977. [2] Playing local gigs they were then taken on by manager Michael Magill and went professional in late 1982 and consisted of sister and brothers June (lead vocals), Hugh (bass) and Max (guitar) Cunningham along with Ricky Meyler (vocals and keyboards) and Majella Grant (drums).
They added Mick Moloney, who was then becoming a major figure in the Irish music scene, and Paul Brady, while Michael Johnston departed. [1] They continued recording to great success in Ireland, then signed to Transatlantic Records in London , releasing a United Kingdom album called The Johnstons in 1968. [ 1 ]
Reverting to the name The Radiators From Space, the band released their third studio album Trouble Pilgrim in October 2006. On 21 December 2006, they played at 'The Point', Dublin, as a special guest of The Pogues. The band's fourth album, Sound City Beat, a collection of cover versions of songs by older Irish bands, was released in 2012.
