From 2004 to 2011, the venue was known simply as Time Warner Cable Stadium, for Time Warner Cable, Inc. On May 6, 2011, prior to a game against Xavier , the field was dedicated to former Dayton baseball player and university donor Larry Woerner.
The stadium was originally opened on October 29, 1932 as "Faulkner Field", with a wooden grandstand which held 4,000 spectators at the time. It was named for local businessman L.E. Faulkner, who financed the materials and equipment for the stadium, which was built for free by local unemployed workers during the Great Depression .
Shortly after Turner completed its merger with Time Warner, SportSouth was purchased by News Corporation's Fox Cable Networks in the winter of 1996. The channel was integrated into the recently formed Fox Sports Net group of regional sports networks, and was officially rebranded as Fox Sports South in January 1997. [ 2 ]
