The Band Box Diner is the oldest operating diner in the Elliot Park neighborhood of Minneapolis, Minnesota. The restaurant, located at 729 South 10th Street, is modeled on the White Castle chain, but is entirely locally built. It was opened by Harry Wyman and his wife Bert in 1939.

The Minneapolis Forum Cafeteria was located at 36 South 7th Street [1] originally constructed in 1914 as the Saxe Theater, later the Strand Theater. [2] A 1930 reconstruction created a cafeteria with a stunning Art Deco interior of black onyx and pale green tiles, sconces, chandeliers, and mirrors with a Minnesota-themed motif: pine cones, waterfalls, and Viking ships.

Janet Karvonen was born and raised in New York Mills, Minnesota, where she became a pioneer for girls basketball in Minnesota. Karvonen scored over 3,000 points in her high school career and led New York Mills to state championships in 1977, 1978, and 1979 and a third-place finish in 1980.
