Falls Township takes its name from a waterfall on the Hocking River, where a mill had been built in 1814, prior to the township's formation. [4] Statewide, the only other Falls Township is located in Muskingum County.
A variant name was Hills Station. [1] A post office called Hills Station was established in 1870, and remained in operation until 1925. [2] Besides the post office, Hills Station had a country store and a depot on the Cincinnati and Marietta Railroad. [3]
