Sunday River is a ski resort located in Newry, Maine, in the United States. It is one of Maine's largest and most visited ski resorts. It is one of Maine's largest and most visited ski resorts. Its vertical drop of 2,340 feet (710 m) is the second largest in Maine (after Sugarloaf ) and the sixth largest in New England .
Skiers staying in slope side lodgings can return to their rooms more easily for a break, or, with kitchen-equipped lodging, to cook and eat lunch. Those who have finished skiing for the day may return easily without disrupting those who may have accompanied them. Adding slopeside lodging can make a ski resort more appealing to travelers. [4]
Sunday River included one double chair and a couple of surface lifts at the time. Sunday River slowly grew to become New England's second most popular resort in the 1990s. In 1994, Otten formed LBO Resort Enterprises Corp and purchased Attitash in New Hampshire. By 1995, Sugarbush, Vermont was added to the portfolio of LBO resorts.
The lake is wholly within Lake Murray State Park, Oklahoma's largest state park, containing over 12,500 acres (51 km 2) of relative wilderness. A state-operated lodge and resort is located on the west shore that serves many visitors to the lake, and serves as a base for numerous cabin and campground facilities near the lake. [3]
Sequoyah's Cabin is located east of Akins on the east side of State Highway 101 at a point where it makes a northward jog. The cabin itself is a single-story log structure with a gabled roof, on 10 acres (4.0 ha) of land that has a park-like setting. The cabin is now sheltered from the elements by a brick structure built in the 1930s.
State Highway 1, known as the Talimena Scenic Byway in this area, bisects the recreation area. U. S. Highway 271 loops up through the summit. [a] Winding Stair Mountain National Recreation Area and the nearby Upper Kiamichi River and Black Fork Mountain Wilderness areas were created by an act of Congress on October 18, 1988. [2]
