Eustachian tube dysfunction (ETD) can cause dulled hearing and a feeling of pressure or fullness in the affected ear. It is usually just lasts for a few weeks during and after a cold. There are various other causes and sometimes it lasts longer. Often no treatment is needed but decongestants, antihistamines or a steroid nasal spray sometimes help.

My doctor recommended a new surgery that helps relieve Eustachian Tube Dysfunction, Eustachian Tube Balloon Dilation. He recommended we go ahead and do the tube dilation on both ears during my 4th surgery when he was working on swapping out the prosthesis in my bad ear. This was the worse decision of my life!
As long as you don't get an earche with the Eustachian Tube Dysfunction, then you won't have an ear infection, which is a bonus. I have suffered 7 perforations in my left eardrum over the past few years, and when this happens my consultant uses microsuction to remove all the horrible thick musus, after which I feel wonderful.

The small space in the middle ear behind the eardrum is normally filled with air. This air space is connected to the back of the nose by a tiny channel called the Eustachian tube. The air on either side of the eardrum should be at the same pressure. Air pressure is highest nearer the ground. So as a plane descends, the air pressure becomes higher.

Developed patulous eustacian tube as a result of a sinus and balloon dilation surgery. Been having head/ facial/ ear pressure for almost 2 years now. ENT recommended I try this surgery on the right side only to see if it would help. Unfortunately it only made the condition worse.
