Collected Stories of William Faulkner is a short story collection by William Faulkner published by Random House in 1950. It won the National Book Award for Fiction in 1951. [ 1 ] The publication of this collection of 42 stories was authorized and supervised by Faulkner himself, who came up with the themed section headings.
William Cuthbert Faulkner (/ ˈ f ɔː k n ər /; [1] [2] September 25, 1897 – July 6, 1962) was an American writer. He is best known for his novels and short stories set in the fictional Yoknapatawpha County, Mississippi, a stand-in for Lafayette County where he spent most of his life.
The story is set during the last years of the Great Depression, as the country readies itself for possible entry into World War II. It begins with two men visiting a house in Jefferson to serve a warrant for the two McCallum brothers, who have not registered for selective service (draft evasion.)
That Evening Sun" is a short story by the American author William Faulkner, published in 1931 in the collection These 13, which included Faulkner's most anthologized story, "A Rose for Emily". The story was originally published, in a slightly different form, as "That Evening Sun Go Down" in The American Mercury in March of the same year.
