The track has held a variety of events since its opening in 1961, including NASCAR races, NCAA FBS college football games, and sprint car races. The speedway has a capacity of 146,000 as of 2021. In addition to the main oval, the facility's complex also features a two-lane, 1 ⁄ 4 mile (0.40 km) long drag strip.
The facility had a quarter-mile drag strip, a 2.043 mi (3.288 km) road course, 7/10-mile kart track as well as mud racing tracks. The road course at Palm Beach International Raceway was a 2-mile, 10-turn circuit constructed of hot-mix asphalt and set on an aggregate base. It was 40 ft (12 m) wide with a 1/3-mile section measuring 80 ft (24 m).
The track itself is a 3-mile (4.8 km) long banked road course with 21 total turns. The width of the track is 45 feet (14 m). The track elevation change is 120 feet (37 m) with the highest point being at pit exit and the lowest point on the "backstretch" where the spring fed infield lakes drain into Spirit Creek just outside the track.
A half mile D-shaped [4] dirt track was inaugurated on August 1, 1965 with motorcycle races, [5] [6] by which time a figure-8 dirt track had been established inside the quarter-mile oval. Its paved drag strip opened on June 5, 1966. [7] The half mile track was paved in 1968. [2]
