Pietro Forquet (2 July 1925 – 27 January 2023) was an Italian bridge player, one of the most famous in bridge history. He won 15 World championship titles with the Blue Team, playing with Eugenio Chiaradia, Guglielmo Siniscalco and, for the most part, Benito Garozzo. Apart from his excellent play, he was renowned for his nerves of steel.
Jeffrey John (Jeff) Meckstroth (born May 15, 1956) [1] is an American professional contract bridge player. He is a multiple world champion, winning the Bermuda Bowl on USA teams five times. He is one of only ten players who have won the so-called triple crown of bridge: the Bermuda Bowl, the World Open Pairs and the World Team Olympiad.
Sokolow learned bridge in her thirties, unusually late for a top player. [3] She has won five world titles and 20 North American Bridge Championships events including the 2002 Life Master Pairs. At Verona, Italy, in 2004 she became the first American man or woman to win the Generali World Masters Individual. Sokolow was born in Cleveland, Ohio.
Hamman first qualified for a world championship in the open category by winning the American Contract Bridge League international trials in 1963, for the 1964 World Team Olympiad. That was a "pairs trial" from which the winning pair and two of the three runners-up would be selected as a 6-person team.
Garozzo & Belladonna (1967) Benito Garozzo (born 5 September 1927) [1] is an Italian American bridge player. He won 13 world championship titles with the Italian Blue Team, starting in 1961 when he was added as a last minute substitute for the Bermuda Bowl, [2] playing in regular partnerships with Pietro Forquet to 1972 and then with Giorgio Belladonna.
He won the Hawaii State Backgammon Championships twice (1973, 2000), and he placed in the top 16 bracket in Macau (1977), Monte Carlo (1979), St. Moritz, Switzerland (1986) and Tokyo, Japan (also 1986). Another famous bridge player, Oswald Jacoby, called Joli Quentin Kansil 'the best combination game inventor/game player in the world'. [2]
