In histo pathology, feathery degeneration, formally feathery degeneration of hepatocytes, is a form of liver parenchymal cell (i.e. hepatocyte) death associated with cholestasis. [ 1 ] Cells undergoing this form of cell death have a flocculant appearing cytoplasm, [ 2 ] and are larger than normal hepatocytes.
Fatty liver can develop into hepatic fibrosis, cirrhosis or liver cancer. [8] For people affected by NAFLD, the 10-year survival rate was about 80%. The rate of progression of fibrosis is estimated to be one per 7 years in NASH and one per 14 years in NAFLD, with an increasing speed.

Surgical resection is associated with a greater than 60% survival rate at 5 years and a recurrence rate greater than 70%. [6] Surgical removal of the tumor is associated with better cancer prognosis, but only 5–15% of patients are suitable for surgical resection due to the extent of disease or poor liver function. Liver cell adenomatosis is associated with liver dysfunction and higher rates of bleeding than hepatic adenomas alone. [7] Available evidence suggests that bleeding occurs in approximately 63% of patients with liver cell adenomatosis. [11] Liver cell adenomatosis is also associated with becoming hepatocellular carcinoma. [11]
An international study showed that people with MASLD with advanced fibrosis had a 10-year survival rate of 81.5%. [ 5 ] MASLD is a risk factor for fibrosis, hypertension, chronic kidney disease, atrial fibrillation , myocardial infarction, ischemic stroke , and death from cardiovascular causes based on very-low to low-quality evidence from ...
