The Airport Rail Link (ARL) (Thai: รถไฟฟ้าแอร์พอร์ต เรล ลิงก์) is an express and commuter rail line in Bangkok, Thailand. The line provides an airport rail link from Suvarnabhumi Airport to Phaya Thai station in central Bangkok.
Along with the BTS Skytrain and the Airport Rail Link, the MRT is part of Bangkok's rail transportation infrastructure. The BEM-operated MRT lines have 526,000 passengers each day as of August 2024 (Blue Line 453,000 and Purple Line 73,000) with 54 operational stations and a combined route length of 71 kilometers (44 mi). The BTS Skytrain Map of Bangkok urban transit systems. Bangkok Metropolitan Region is served by 9 rapid transit rail lines as of 2023. The BTS Skytrain consists of three lines, the Sukhumvit Line, Silom Line and Gold Line. The Metropolitan Rapid Transit (MRT) also consists of three lines, the Blue Line, Purple Line and Yellow Line.
The MRT Blue line connects major business, residential and cultural areas of Bangkok. In late 2019, the average daily ridership was 400,000. [ 2 ] In mid 2021, during a COVID-19 3rd wave in Bangkok ridership plummeted to between 76,000 - 116,000 per weekday.
The line links 6 other lines; the MRT Blue Line, interchange with the MRT Orange Line (which is under construction), the planned MRT Grey Line and MRT Brown Line, the Airport Rail Link (Bangkok) and finally the BTS Sukhumvit Line. As such, it is an important cross city link in the middle north-eastern and eastern areas of Bangkok.
