MySQL Connector/ODBC, once known as MyODBC, is computer software from Oracle Corporation. It is an ODBC interface and allows programming languages that support the ODBC interface to communicate with a MySQL database.
ODBC drivers exist for most DBMSs, including Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL, Microsoft SQL Server (but not for the Compact aka CE edition), Mimer SQL, Sybase ASE, SAP HANA [28] [29] and IBM Db2. Because different technologies have different capabilities, most ODBC drivers do not implement all functionality defined in the ODBC standard.
Connectivity options: Direct client/server using MySQL API (SSL supported), HTTP/HTTPS tunneling, SSH tunneling; Wizard-driven tool for import of data from ODBC-databases; Backup Tool for performing unattended backups. Backups may be compressed and optionally stored as a file-per-table as well as identified with a timestamp.
Specialized editions for (for example) clustering, high availability, 64-bit support, and hybrid (in-memory and persistent) storage. eXtremeDB Financial Edition implements columnar data handling, vector-based statistical function library, integrated performance monitoring. H2 (DBMS) H2 Java, ODBC, JDBC
MySQL (/ ˌ m aɪ ˌ ɛ s ˌ k juː ˈ ɛ l /) [5] is an open-source relational database management system (RDBMS). [5] [6] Its name is a combination of "My", the name of co-founder Michael Widenius's daughter My, [7] and "SQL", the acronym for Structured Query Language.
Type 1 that calls native code of the locally available ODBC driver. (Note: In JDBC 4.2, JDBC-ODBC bridge has been removed [15]) Type 2 that calls database vendor native library on a client side. This code then talks to database over the network. Type 3, the pure-java driver that talks with the server-side middleware that then talks to the database.
This technology isn't suitable for a high-transaction environment. Type 1 drivers also don't support the complete Java command set and are limited by the functionality of the ODBC driver. Sun (now Oracle) provided a JDBC-ODBC Bridge driver: sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcDriver. This driver is native code and not Java, and is closed source.
Tcl Database Connectivity (TDBC), part of Tcl 8.6, is a common database access interface for Tcl scripts. It currently supports drivers for accessing MySQL, ODBC, PostgreSQL and SQLite databases. More are planned for the future. Access to databases is also supported through database-specific extensions, of which there are many available. [44]
