U.S. Route 422 (US 422) is a 271-mile-long (436 km) spur route of US 22 split into two segments in the U.S. states of Ohio and Pennsylvania. The western segment of US 422 runs from downtown Cleveland , Ohio, east to Ebensburg , Pennsylvania.
The new road is briefly known as Chagrin Boulevard before becoming Kinsman Road. SR 8/US 422 continues to the northwest through the immediate Cleveland area; during its approach to downtown Cleveland, SR 87 joins the concurrency, followed by an interchange with I-77. Further into Beachwood, it crosses Chagrin Boulevard (now with the US 422 designation) and picks up the designation for OH-87. OH -87 leaves Richmond Road at an intersection for Shaker Boulevard. SR 175 continues through the eastern suburbs of Cleveland, eventually terminating with Lakeshore Boulevard .
US 422 in Eastern PA has a western terminus in Harrisburg. However, another US 422 begins north of Pittsburgh and continues into Ohio through Youngstown, Warren and ultimately becomes a major thoroughfare in Cuyahoga County (serving the eastern suburban office market of Cleveland and terminating Southeast of Downtown Cleveland.
SR 87 begins at Public Square in Cleveland, at an intersection with US 6 / US 42 / SR 3. It is concurrent with US 422 and SR 8 for just over 2 miles (3.2 km) (as well as SR 14 and SR 43 for a short segment), and then leaves the concurrency to occupy a section of Woodland Avenue.

Meanwhile, the freeway section of OH 193 between US 422 and its current southern terminus at I-680 was completed at around the same time that OH 193 was assigned.
