The George and Sarah Joslyn Home (officially named "Lynhurst," and known locally as Joslyn Castle), is a mansion located at 3902 Davenport Street in the Gold Coast Historic District of Omaha, Nebraska, United States.
Known as Omaha’s castle, Joslyn Castle was originally named Lynhurst by George and Sarah Joslyn when they had the Scottish Baronial Revival mansion constructed on the western outskirts of 1903 Omaha. The Joslyns relocated to Omaha from Vermont, when George took a job with a Des Moines printing company to manage a branch office in Omaha in 1880.
3902 Davenport Street - Joslyn Castle is on the National Register of Historic Places and is the local landmark and first historic site of the Nebraska Statewide Arboretum. This 35-room, 20,000 sq. ft. home built in 1903 was designed by architect John McDonald and sits on 5.5 acres of ground.
Originally named “Lynhurst” by the Joslyn family, the George Joslyn Residence was dubbed “The Castle” by neighbors and in early newspaper accounts because of its size and resemblance to castles the Joslyns had visited in Scotland.
This Scottish baronial four-story, 35-room mansion was built in 1903 as the private home of George and Sarah Joslyn. It was designed by prominent architect John McDonald and also features a conservatory designed by Jens Jensen. The Castle is situated on 5.5 acres of park-like grounds.
Your tour of the Castle includes the main, second and third floor. The tour begins with a ten minute video overview of George and Sarah Joslyn's story, followed by a room-by-room guided tour. The length of the tour is about 90 minutes. Admission for all Castle tours: $17 Adults. $15 Seniors, students, and military.
