  2. What is the best 7.62x39 ammo for hunting deer?

    forum.pafoa.org/showthread.php?t=80015

If you really, really want to save money, grind about an 1/8 inch off the points of your FMJs, instant flatnosed lead points. Loaded Boat tails made just for hunting purposes, if they are even made, would be better suited in a bolt gun like one of the CZ ones out there in 7.62X39.

banger said: EDIT, B.T.W. back in the day, when steel core was the most common type of ammo found in 7.62X39, the Yugo M-67 flat base was THE AMMO to find due to it's superior performance. The Yugo was sold at a higher price despite being loaded with corrosive primers, due to this fact. A lot of Yugo M67 still out there.

  5. The supply of 7.62 x 39 ammo has sure dried up | Glock Talk

There is plenty of x39 ammo on the market that is priced the same as .223/5.56 and 300blk. Cheap Tula ammo is gone. Russian ammo was responsible for I believe 30% or more of the ammo being sold in the United States. If you can afford to feed your AR15s, AR10s, Fals, G3 variants, M1 Garands, Ruger Mini 14s, etc, you can afford to shoot AKs still.

  6. Re: 7.62x39 Ammo ID & Corrosive/Non-Corrosive. Here are some Russian manufacture. The white box was ID'd as Klimovsk on another site. HP, 3 is Russian code, 1995 manufacture. Gray box not marked as non-corrosive. HP, 711 is Russian code, Ulyanovsk plant, 1994 manufacture. Looks the same as the other, just made one year earlier.

But when they tried that on m855, there was so many people contacting local representives and causing a stir about it, I see popular domestic cartridges like 223/556/300blk/308 being harder to "ban".

Don't know if you realize that there has been an import ban on Russian ammo since summer of 2021, additive to the relative supply shortage that was ongoing... so the cost of steel case 7.62x39 ammo has jumped 30% since then and is now the same cost as AR15 ammo.

Yes, it sucks paying .45 cents a round +\- for 7.62 x39. It will never be the dirt cheap round that it used to be. Prices will now be parallel to or slightly exceed brascase 5.56. But let’s keep things relative. 7.62 x39 at current prices is still the cheapest .30 caliber intermediate rifle cartridge.

Steel core is out there from $.62 to $1.15/rd. I sold 3K of this ammo...minus 2K Norinco Silver Box and 1500 rounds we shot off. I made enough off of the sale to cover the entire purchase of 6500 rds and a Chinese SKS.
