The 05:35 service from Rosslare Europort to Dundalk Clarke, previously the longest train route on the island of Ireland by duration, was discontinued in the timetable change of September 2024. This service took 4 hours and 42 minutes, arriving in Dundalk Clarke at 10:17.
Prior to the installation of mini-CTC on the line in April 2008, it was not normally possible for northbound trains to use the loop, as it was only signalled in the Rosslare direction. This led to some awkward shunting arrangements when a locomotive-hauled train terminated. The timetable suggests that only one train each way has to use of the loop.
Until 18 September 2010 (inclusive) there was also a single daily train each way to and from Waterford. It is now replaced by a revised Bus Éireann Route 370 service via Wellingtonbridge . [ 3 ] This bus service and the small number of other bus services from the port depart and arrive at the bus stops in front of the terminal building.
Rosslare Strand railway station (Irish: Stáisiún Thrá Ros Láir) is in Rosslare Strand, County Wexford, Ireland. It is the junction of the Dublin–Rosslare railway line and the Limerick–Rosslare railway line , the Rosslare Strand to Waterford section of which is currently not in use.
The line has seen some growth, with the Irish Times reporting that from 2013 to 2014, "the western rail corridor saw a 72.5 per cent increase from 29,000 to 50,000 journeys through the Ennis–Athenry section of the line", which was partly attributed to the introduction of online booking and promotional fares.
