Heywood House Gardens, generally Heywood Gardens, form the grounds of a now-vanished house in County Laois, Ireland. The estate was developed in the late 18th century by Michael Frederick Trench, a politician, landowner and architect. He built a substantial house and laid out an extensive park, under the direction of James Gandon.
The monument was erected in 1898. In 1998 a ceremony was held in Ballinakill to mark the bicentenary of the deaths. In 1906, Poë commissioned Edwin Lutyens and Gertrude Jekyll to develop the gardens around his seat, Heywood House. The house was destroyed by fire in the 1950s, but the gardens still exist. They have been described as "one of the most beautiful formal gardens in Ireland". [19]
