Āśrama (Sanskrit: आश्रम) is a system of stages of life discussed in Hindu texts of the ancient and medieval eras. [1] The four asramas are: Brahmacharya (student), Gṛhastha (householder), Vanaprastha (forest walker/forest dweller), and Sannyasa (renunciate).

Sannyasa (Sanskrit: संन्यास, romanized: saṃnyāsa), sometimes spelled sanyasa, is the fourth stage within the Hindu system of four life stages known as ashramas, the first three being brahmacharya (celibate student), grihastha (householder) and vanaprastha (forest dweller, retired). [1]
The Atharva Veda was thus added to the list of Vedas, making the total four. The Kumaras went to their brother, the Prajapati Daksha , who was a bitter rival of Shiva. On listening about the defeat of his four brothers, he cursed them to become small children.
The four Vedas are Rig Veda, Yajur Veda, Sama Veda and Atharva Veda.They consist of hymns called Mantras which contain all knowledge in "seed" form (Bheeja roopa). They are among the oldest known works of literature, originally passed down via the oral tradition.

The acceptance of the Atharvanas hymns and traditional folk practices was slow, and it was accepted as another Veda much later than the first three, by both orthodox and heterodox traditions of Indian philosophies. The early Buddhist Nikaya texts, for example, do not recognize Atharvaveda as the fourth Veda, and make references to only three Vedas.
