The High Commissioner of the United Kingdom to Cyprus is the United Kingdom's foremost diplomatic representative in the Republic of Cyprus. Previously a territory of the Ottoman Empire , a British protectorate under Ottoman suzerainty was established over Cyprus by the Cyprus Convention of 4 June 1878.
The countries are both members of the United Nations and Commonwealth of Nations. The United Kingdom has a High Commission in Nicosia and Cyprus has a High Commission in London. Irfan Siddiq is the current British High Commissioner to Cyprus, [1] whilst Andreas Kakouris is the current Cypriot High Commissioner to the UK. [2]

A British protectorate under nominal Ottoman suzerainty was established over Cyprus by the Cyprus Convention of 4 June 1878, following the Russo-Turkish War, in exchange for British support of the Ottomans during the Congress of Berlin. [3] Cyprus was then proclaimed a British protectorate and was informally integrated into the British Empire.

The High Commission of Cyprus is the diplomatic mission of Cyprus in the United Kingdom. [1] It is located at 13 St James's Square, next door to the London Library and very close to Chatham House. [1] In 2012 there was a small protest outside the High Commission by people claiming to have been mis-sold property on the island. [2]
