Desaru (Jawi: ديسارو; Chinese: 迪沙鲁) is a beach resort in Kota Tinggi District, Johor, Malaysia. It is famous for its pristine beach beside the South China Sea, and recently became a popular camping spot.
The island rises up to 600 meters above sea level at a peak named Mount Semundu. The interior of the island is mostly covered with secondary lowland Dipterocarp rainforest. It has fresh waters, fruits, rattan, timber and a sheltered harbour and coral reefs which abound with prolific marine life.
This resort was the first project of GHM which subsequently came under the management of Destination Resorts & Hotels Sdn. Bhd [ 5 ] on 28 July 2011. The Datai Langkawi is currently managed by Datai Hotels and Resorts Sdn Bhd, a company incorporated to manage and operate hospitality properties in Malaysia and beyond.

The hotel previously held the same title in 2006, then having 6,118 rooms in two towers, Tower 1 and 2 until The Palazzo took the title after an expansion of The Venetian located on Las Vegas Strip which was officially opened on 1 January 2008. The hotel regained the title after opening a new block named Tower 2 Annex (Tower 2A) with 1,233 rooms.
