Bermuda (/ b ər ˈ m j uː d ə /; historically known as the Bermudas or Somers Isles) is a British Overseas Territory in the North Atlantic Ocean. The closest land outside the territory is in the American state of North Carolina, about 1,035 km (643 mi) to the west-northwest.

Somers returned to Bermuda on Patience, captained by his nephew, Matthew, to gather provisions for the Jamestown colony, but died on Bermuda in 1610. Matthew Somers was keen to receive his inheritance (Sir George and his wife were childless, but had raised his two nephews), and took Patience to Somers' hometown, Lyme Regis , and not to Virginia.

The Reefs Beach Club, as it was known, opened its doors in 1947. It was the first cabana-style beach resort in Bermuda. [1] A $5 million major renovation began in the early 2000s, which added 11 suites, in-room entertainment, and Bermuda's first freshwater infinity pool. The renovations also included updates to the dining venues. [2]
The house was built by John Dickinson who was a shipowner and was the speaker of the House of Assembly of Bermuda from 1707 to 1710. [2] later owners was the painter and judge John Green. The house has four large chimneys and contains collections of antique Bermuda axelwood furniture, Bermuda portraits, and English and Chinese porcelain. [3]
