Built by local pioneer Capt. John Miller beginning around 1889 and ending around 1901, it started as a two-room one-story house and ended up a ten-room two-story house with a cross-gabled roof. In 1989, it was listed in A Guide to Florida's Historic Architecture, published by the University of Florida Press. [1] [2] [3]

Miller House (also known as the Ruskin Women's Club) is a historic home in Ruskin, Florida. It is located at 508 Tamiami Trail. It was built in early 1900s as the residence of George McAnelly Miller, president of Ruskin College and his wife Addie Dickman Miller, the college's vice-president. [2] It currently houses the Ruskin Woman's Club. [2]
In 1918, a fire destroyed the college, sparing only the Millers' house. Dr. Miller died in August 1919. [6] At this time U.S. Route 41 was only a 9-foot-wide (2.7 m) shell road paid for by a $30,000 local bond issue (equivalent to $394,000 in 2023).
