Dixie Road is named for the Dixie neighbourhood (a former rural hamlet at Cawthra Road and Dundas Street in Mississauga, 2 km (1.25 mi.) to the west of the street along Dundas), which was in turn named for Beaumont Dixie, a settler who paid for the establishment of the Union Chapel, a multi-denominational Protestant church in the community.
The main principles of the guidelines included a variety of housing types, parks, schools, stormwater management facilities, and a grid pattern of streets within the area. The bulk of the construction and development began in 1997 and ended in 2001, though some infilling is still ongoing. It is one of the newest communities in Mississauga. [2]
