Bennington College is a private liberal arts college in Bennington, Vermont, United States. Founded as a women’s college in 1932, [ 4 ] it became co-educational in 1969. It is accredited by the New England Commission of Higher Education .
The landmark district encompasses an area of about 20,000 acres (81 km2), including the entire city limits of Virginia City and a significant portion of Alder Gulch where mining operations took place. Many of the city's buildings were built before the turn of the 20th century, and a significant number date to its heyday in the 1860s.

Bennington, who fronted Linkin Park since the band's 2000 debut album "Hybrid Theory," died by suicide at the age of 41 in July 2017. The group went on an extended hiatus following his death.
