It is the second Vande Bharat Express in Kerala as well as India's first saffron coloured semi-high speed train (replaced with White Blue Vandebharat rake of the pairing train after extension to Mangalore Central). The first Vande Bharat train in Kerala started its service between Kasaragod and Thiruvananthapuram via Kottayam route in April 2023.
This train is operated by Indian Railways, connecting Kasaragod, Kannur, Kozhikode, Shoranur Junction, Thrissur, Ernakulam Town, Kottayam, Chengannur, Kollam Junction and Thiruvananthapuram Central. This is the first Vande Bharat Express train for Kerala [5] and the third Vande Bharat Express train for Southern Railways. [6]
The train is hauled by an ED or RPM-based WAP-4 throughout the journey. Before the commissioning of electrification of the Bengaluru (Baiyyappanahalli) - Salem line on 2 July 2022, the train used to be hauled by a Golden Rock-based WDP4D (earlier Erode-based), WDG4 or WDP4B or an Erode-based WDM-3D from Bangalore to Erode, and an Erode-based WAP-4 from Erode to Ernakulam.
