Frank Kusch is a historian of American history, who writes on post-1945 political and cultural events. Kusch is the author of Battleground Chicago: the Police and the 1968 Democratic National Convention (September, 2004) and All American Boys: Draft Dodgers in Canada from the Vietnam War (August, 2001).
The statue is about nine feet (three meters) in height. It depicts Black Partridge, a Potawatomi chief, saving the life of Margaret Helm, the wife of a U.S. army officer, during the Battle of Fort Dearborn in 1812. The Fort Dearborn Massacre Monument is not to be confused with Defense, a 1928 bas relief sculpture by Henry Hering.

Greene was born on the south side of Chicago, Illinois on December 18, 1949. He grew up in Wheaton, a city located 26 miles west of Chicago.
