In Decatur, Alabama, Ingalls Shipbuilding built barges and type B ship barges from 1930 to 1980. In 1980 the shipyard was sold to Trinity Industries that closed in 1981. This site is now called Ingalls Harbor.
FS-396 was constructed by Ingalls Shipbuilding Corp. at their shipyards at Decatur, Alabama for the U.S. Army Transportation Corps and commissioned 18 January 1945. She was manned by the U.S. Coast Guard for a period of one year and was used as a cargo ship to carry supplies to Kwajalein Atoll until being decommissioned on 18 January 1946.

Decatur (/ d ɪ ˈ k eɪ t ə r / [7]) is the largest city and county seat of Morgan County (with a portion also in Limestone County) in the U.S. state of Alabama. [8] Nicknamed "The River City," it is located in northern Alabama on the banks of Wheeler Lake along the Tennessee River.
Sharps (AG-139) was built in 1944 by Ingalls Shipbuilding Corp., Decatur, Alabama; operated by the U.S. Army as a freight supply ship (USA FS-385) in the Pacific Ocean until being transferred to the Navy at Guam in March 1947. She was converted to Navy use and commissioned there on 3 August 1947.
