The SH-51 and SH-51A intersection in Southard, Oklahoma in 2023. Like many in the Oklahoma state highway system, SH-51 has short spurs branching from it that bear the "51" number with a lettered suffix: SH-51A (23 miles [37 km]) runs from SH-58 northeast of Canton to SH-8 near Roman Nose State Park. It is the longest suffixed highway in the system.
After Wausau, US 51 continues as a freeway to Merrill. Along the way, it passes Brokaw. For much of this stretch, the highway follows the Wisconsin River. The highway passes an exit with County Trunk Highway Q (CTH-Q) just before crossing the Wisconsin River. It then passes Merrill, with exits at WIS 64 and CTH-K. [2]

Business U.S. Highway 51 (Bus. US 51) was a business loop that served Merrill, Wisconsin. The business loop was established in 1976 after a freeway bypass was completed east of Merrill.
