Like their father, they both could use the power of lightning, but instead of a hammer, the older of the two, Magni, used a large sword, whereas Modi used a mace and shield. The two teamed up to face Kratos and Atreus, which resulted in the death of Magni while Modi fled. Modi later returned and ambushed Kratos and Atreus, and Atreus fell ill.
After Kratos kills Magni, Modi flees but later ambushes the trio. Kratos fends him off, but Atreus collapses, overcome by illness due to the contradiction of a god believing himself to be mortal. Freya instructs Kratos to retrieve the heart of a specific troll in Helheim; however, his frost-based Leviathan Axe is useless in the icy realm.
