Schafer High School closed and combined operations with Southgate High School, which was renamed Southgate Anderson High School that summer by the school board. The new name was in honor of Thomas J. Anderson, the first mayor of Southgate. On September 8, 1982 Southgate Anderson High School reopened its doors with approximately 1,400 students.

Southgate is a city in Wayne County, Michigan, United States. The population was 30,047 at the 2020 census. [4] Southgate was incorporated as a city on October 8, 1958, which was one of the last remaining portions of the now-defunct Ecorse Township. It is part of the Downriver collection of communities south of the city of Detroit.
Schafer said the township is expecting to get a business expansion on 17 acres of land, from Paxton Countertops, that came out of a 2021 rezoning and a 2022 site plan approval.
