Fort Deposit is a town in Lowndes County, Alabama, United States. Since 1890, it has been the largest town in Lowndes County. [2] At the 2010 census the population was 1,344, up from 1,270 in 2000. The Grand Hotel in Point Clear, Alabama on Mobile Bay is a historic hotel originally built in 1847. [1] It is listed on the National Registry of the Historic Hotels of America and has been added to the Autograph Collection by Marriott. The original hotel was two-stories with 40 guest rooms. [2]
Through the Great Depression to the 1970s, the hotel went into decline, saddled with debt and bouncing between owners. It ceased operating in 1950 and was later converted to a private residence and organ repair shop. [4] The hotel reopened in 2001, and underwent an extensive restoration in 2010–11. An antique store occupied the 1915 annex. [3]
