Dominican Sisters from the St Joseph Congregation (Lymington) serve the parish every weekend, and they are engaged in sacramental catechesis for children. St Dominic's is also the residence of the Prior Provincial of the Dominican friars in England and Scotland. Next to the church is the diocesan-run Catholic primary school of St Dominic.
St. Dominic Church was founded in 1852, organized by Rev. George A.J. Wilson, and opened on March 19, 1854. [9] It was set in an area of the city known as "The Island" because, at that time, a canal ran where Constitution Ave. is today which connected the Potomac and the Anacostia Rivers.
The church is in the centre of Croydon, but is closer to West Croydon station than East Croydon and its parish is mostly in the west of the town. It has seven Sunday Masses at 7:00 pm on Saturday and at 8:00 am, 9:15 am, 10:45 am, 12:15 pm, 3:00 pm, and 6:00 pm on Sunday. [1]

The parish was established in 1927. The Romanesque Revival was built 1925 to the designs of Bronx-native architect Anthony J. DePace of the firm DePace & Juster. [2]In 2007 the administration of the parishes of Our Lady of Solace Church (Bronx) and St. Dominic's merged forming a single parish with two churches.
