Joseph Guillermo Jones II (born July 15, 1976), [1] better known by his stage name Jim Jones (or Jimmy Jones), is an American rapper, record producer and record executive.He is a founding member of the hip hop collective the Diplomats (also known as Dipset), which he formed in 1997 with fellow Harlem native Cam'ron.
In October 2009, Jones collaborated with fellow New York City-based rapper DJ Webstar, to release an album titled The Rooftop, which includes the single "Dancin on Me". After releasing several mixtapes, Jones released his fifth album Capo in April 2011, which spawned the singles " Perfect Day " and "Everybody Jones".
The Diplomats (also known as Dipset) were an American hip hop collective formed in the summer of 1997 by childhood friends Cam'ron and Jimmy Jones in Harlem, New York. The group was originally composed of Cam'ron, Jim Jones and Freekey Zekey, all of whom grew up together in Harlem. In 1999, fellow Harlem-based rapper Juelz Santana joined the group.
Trent Clark of HipHopDX rated the album a 3.8 out of 5 stars, calling the album a "CPR for traditional NYC rap", also praising the body of work for its nolstagia-filled content by saying "...They don't make New York rappers like they used to and hearing Jones dominate a full-length project with accelerated lyricism is a throwback to the days of the American Diplomatic flag".
