Shikamaru Nara (奈良 シカマル, Nara Shikamaru) is a fictional character in the manga and anime franchise, Naruto, created by Masashi Kishimoto.In the manga, Shikamaru is a shinobi affiliated with the village Hidden in the Leaves.

Shikamaru leaves with Asuma, Izumo and Kotetsu, whereas Ino and Choji leave with Raido and Aoba. That night, Sakura Haruno cries over her picture of Team 7 , and Naruto, after witnessing a shooting star, manages to clear the second stage of his training but subsequently collapses from hunger and exhaustion almost immediately afterward.
Gengo tells Shikamaru about his past with Zabuza, and how it shaped his ideology. Ino enters Sai's mind to completely break Gengo's hold on him and warns them about Gengi's trap to convert Shikamaru. Gengo tells Shikamaru his plan to infiltrate the hidden villages and can make them cause incidents all over.
Shikamaru also recollects his past in protecting his comrades and Ino thinking about Asuma's last words which she must guide Shikamaru and Choji. Upon reaching Asuma after other ninja attempted to subdue him, the group engage their mentor with Choji holding back his punches.

Meanwhile, Shikamaru, Ino, and Choji are having trouble holding the two brothers off, and they know that they can't defeat them, so they are stalling for time.
