The precursor to the club was the Montclair Baseball Club which existed from 1883 to 1890, and in 1899 the MAC was created. [1] On September 19, 1913 Clare Cassell won the women's tennis championship at the club. [2] In 1949 Montclair Kimberley Academy purchased and renovated the building to house the MKA Middle School, grades 4-8. [3]

[1] [2] He graduated from Colgate University in 1953 and received his law degree from Cornell Law School in 1956. He clerked for retired Superior Court Judge Alexander P. Waugh.

[2] Known as the "father of digital recording", he earned an Sc.D. degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1959 and was appointed Assistant Professor of Electrical Engineering.
