Blue Springs South High School senior Maya McVey on Wednesday was awarded the Kenneth Smith Award as the top female high school golfer in the Kansas City metro.
The school is named for Californian missionary Saint Junípero Serra. Junípero Serra High School was founded by James Francis Cardinal McIntyre and the Society of Mary (Marianists) as an all boys school in the South Bay section of Los Angeles.
