The Kansas Historical Society is the official state historical society of Kansas. Headquartered in Topeka, it operates as "the trustee of the state" for the purpose of maintaining the state's history and operates the Kansas Museum of History, Kansas State Archives and Library, Kansas State Capitol Tour Center, and 16 state-owned sites.
It includes both current and historical newspapers. Although abolitionist newspapers were published in Kansas as early as 1854, the first Kansas newspaper published by and for African Americans was the Colored Radical, published briefly at Lawrence and Leavenworth in 1876. [1]

The Courtland Journal is a local newspaper in Courtland, Kansas. [1] It is published weekly on Thursdays and reports a circulation of 466. [2] The paper was started under the name The Comet in 1903. It was sold to Francis Borin in 1915 and moved to Courtland where it was renamed The Courtland Journal. It has published continuously ever since. [3]
