Directorate of Technical Education was established in 1960 under the Ministry of Education, when Bangladesh was part of Pakistan. The Directorate is responsible for 64 Technical School and College, 49 Polytechnic Institutes, one Degree Level Technical Teachers Training College and four Engineering College.

The establishment of the Technical Teachers Training College (TTTC) dates back to 1960 as the teachers’ wing of the Dhaka Polytechnic Institute. It underwent rapid growth and development and in 1964 emerged as a separate college called the Technical Education College (TEC). In 1967 the college was renamed the Technical Teachers Training College.

Board of Accreditation for Engineering and Technical Education (BAETE) [9] is a non-governmental body that provides accreditation for engineering programs within the jurisdiction of Bangladesh. It operates as an independent and autonomous agency of the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB).
The institute operates under the executive control of the Ministry of Education (MOE) acting through the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE). [1] The academic programmes, and curricula are maintained under the regulation of the Bangladesh Technical Education Board (BTEB). [2]
