The Dignity Health Event Center is a multipurpose arena in Bakersfield, California. It opened in December 2009 as the Jam Events Center. It was home to the Bakersfield Jam of the NBA Development League. [1] [2] The arena regularly seats 500 people but it is expandable to 700.
Attached to the arena is the Mechanics Bank Theater and Convention Center, a 17,840-square-foot (1,657 m 2) exhibit hall and 3,000-seat theater. The complex was known as the Bakersfield Civic Auditorium when it opened in 1962 and was renamed the Bakersfield Convention Center in the 1980s. In front of the arena is a city parkspace, Centennial Plaza.
It would also include the construction of a hotel directly adjacent and connected to the theater. The convention center was completed in 1980, but budget problems would delay the hotel until 1993. The name was also changed to the Bakersfield Convention Center. [citation needed] In 1998, the facility was again modified.
The shops and cafes that line the Downtown streets feature dining and shopping venues. Notable attractions in Downtown Bakersfield include the Rabobank Arena, the McMurtrey Aquatic Center, the Bakersfield Museum of Art, the historic Fox Theater, the Padre Hotel, and a nightlife district centered on 19th Street and Wall Street Alley. The department was founded in 1960, in conjunction with the start of construction of the Civic Auditorium (later renamed Rabobank Theater and Convention Center). In addition to running the auditorium and convention center, it started promoting Bakersfield to outside companies and visitors.
