Lata Mangeshkar (Hindi pronunciation: [ləˈt̪aː məŋˈɡeːʃkəɾ] ⓘ; born Hema Mangeshkar; 28 September 1929 – 6 February 2022) [8] was an Indian playback singer and occasional music composer. She is considered to be one of the greatest and most influential singers of the Indian subcontinent.

The category was finally introduced in 1959. Though, separate awards for male & female singers were introduced later on. Lata Mangeshkar monopolized the best female playback singer award from 1959 to 1967. Lata Mangeshkar's career spanned more than 70 years (starting in 1942), recording thousands of songs. This iconic song [3] is regarded to be one of the songs by which Lata Mangeshkar is remembered. Lata herself considered this song to be among her top six favourite songs in 2016 [4] and among her favourite 20 in 2012. [5]
The first live performance by Lata Mangeshkar of the song was on 26 January 1963 and was held at an event at the National Stadium in New Delhi. President S. Radhakrishnan and Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru attended the performance because Republic Day (26 January) 1963, which was just two months after the end of the war. [ 5 ]
