Latrodectus geometricus, commonly known as the brown widow, [2] [3] brown button spider, grey widow, brown black widow, [3] house button spider or geometric button spider, is one of the widow spiders in the genus Latrodectus. As such, it is a 'cousin' to the more infamous Latrodectus mactans (black widow).
The spider gets its name from the existence of three distinctive white stripes on its back, more noticeable on the male. The spider is small, with a dark brown carapace that is between 2 and 2.3 mm (0.079 and 0.091 in) long and a lighter sandy or yellowish-white abdomen that is between 2.4 and 2.6 mm (0.094 and 0.102 in) long.
